She started her career as a professional model and entered the fashion industry by submitting her portfolio to popular photographer Tapu Javeri. Annie Ali Khan had worked as a fashion model to several top designers and brand names including for Lipton tea product. She also worked as a model for the American television network MTV and also starred in MTV's popular video song Saali Tu Maani Nahin alongside Pakistani singer Shehzad Roy, which became viral at that time and gained positive reviews in Pakistan. Annie later transformed her modelling career and pursued her later career to become a freelance journalist and writer by stepping into journalism and documentary production. She contributed to popular magazines including Dawn, Herald, The Express Tribune, The Asia Society, The Caravan, Tanqeed, Roads and Kingdoms, Marie Claire through publishing reports and articles mainly on women empowerment and about the culture in Pakistan. She was also praised for her brave efforts as a journalist for prepare reports on the topics covering A Railway Pilgrimage in Pakistan and A Hindu Pilgrimage in Pakistan. In 2017, she wrote a well acclaimed article on The Missing Daughters of Pakistan for the Herald magazine.
