Photo by Giulio Di Mauro The festive, emotional and romantic spirit of Mexico animated Brian Atwood's spring shoe collection. Vivid floral motifs drawn from Frida Kahlo's paintings showed up as hand-painted silk hibiscus flowers on sky-high sandals with straight graphic heels or Forties-inspired cork platforms. Atwood said he used vibrant silk with a print that came from a photo of sombreros taken from above. Other models featured cascades of multicolored beaded fringe, watersnake printed in Aztec patterns and inlaid mosaic suede. Shown here is a flat espadrille with elaborate woven nappa cords and exuberant tassel. Visitors were serenaded by a Mariachi band.
